Unveiling Tandem Solar Cells' Temperature Coefficient
- KAUST researchers conduct tests to determine accuracy of temperature coefficient metric for perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells. Results show external quantum efficiency, bandgap, local solar spectrum, and operating temperature range all influence assessment. Research team unable to predict changes in tandem cells under outdoor conditions. Findings could help community better understand outdoor data and improve tandem cell efficiency.
Researchers from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have conducted a series of tests to determine whether the temperature coefficient of the short circuit current in perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells could be a proper standard of measurement for performance and behavior. The results of their tests showed that this coefficient may not be an accurate metric, as factors such as the external quantum efficiency, bandgap of the perovskite, local solar spectrum and operating temperature range all influence the assessment. Furthermore, the research team was unable to accurately predict changes in the current of the tandem cells under outdoor conditions. Their findings could help the community to better understand outdoor data and could improve the overall efficiency of tandem cells.
