Solar power in UK

The contribution of Solar power for electricity production was meager in the UK until the year 2010, it grew a lot as of June 2021 installed capacity has surpassed 13.5 gigawatts (GW), with 72 megawatts. In the UK by the end of 2011, there were 230,000 projects of Solar power whose installed generating capacity is 750 Megawatt. The total installed capacity had surpassed ten- thousand megawatt by 2016. Between April and September 2016, solar panels in the UK generated enough electricity (6,964 Gigawatt hour) then power from coal (6,342 Gigawatt hours). Solar PV installed capacity in the UK was 12.8-gigawatt-hour at the end of 2017, accounting for 3.4 percent of total power generation. By the end of January 2019, a solar capacity of 13,123 megawatts was in the UK across 979,983 installations. This represents a 323 Megawatt growth in just over a year.  On April 20th, 2020, photovoltaic generation reached an all-time high of 9.68 GW.

Cleve Hill Solar Farm

It is a photovoltaic power plant that received approval on May 28, 2020.   It is located between Faversham and Whitstable in the Graveney marshes. It will produce 350MW of electricity from vertical solar panels covering 900 acres (360 ha). It is a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, meaning it is outside of the regular local planning system due to its scale. Wirsol Energy Ltd and High Energy are collaborating on the solar farm, which will be the largest solar farm in the UK, generating roughly 350 Megawatts. The east-west facing solar photovoltaic panels will cover 800 acres (320 ha) of the Grade 3b agricultural area.

Shotwick Solar Park

It was created in collaboration with Compton Group and We-Link Energy. With a capacity of 72.2 Megawatts, it is the UK's largest solar park. The park was completed in just over eight weeks, which is an extraordinary feat for a park of this size. The site is directly linked to the private infrastructure of the UK's leading paper mill, allowing it to counterbalance about one-third of the mill's yearly electricity usage and making it Europe's largest private wire solar park.PPA collaborates with UPM Shotton Paper Mill to meet up to 70% of the mill's energy needs.CO2 emissions are reduced by 22,500 tons per year. In January 2017, Foresight Group purchased the company.

Owl’s Hatch

More than 200 acres of land adjacent to OWLS HATCH Road will be covered by rows of 2.4-meter solar panels, creating one of the country's largest solar farms. It is located in the small town of Herne Bay. Its production capacity is 51.9 megawatt. It covers approximately 196.88 acres of land.
