465 MW Solar Powered: NIPSCO's Indiana Plans

Schahfer coal-fired plant in 2025. NIPSCO's commitment to benefit customers includes going coal-free by 2028 and cutting their carbon footprint by 90% by 2030.
NIPSCO, a subsidiary of NiSource Inc, has brought online 465MW of solar parks in Indiana. Indiana Crossroads in White County was developed and installed by EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and is expected to bring in $42 million in property taxes over its 35-year lifespan. The Dunns Bridge I & II in Jasper County will result in $59 million in tax revenue and will be coupled with 75MW of battery storage capacity. The capacity is located near the utility’s R.M. Schahfer coal-fired plant that is due to be retired in 2025. This addition of solar parks to the electric generating portfolio is a direct benefit to customers as NIPSCO aims to be coal-free by 2028 and cut its carbon footprint by more than 90% by 2030 from 2005 levels.
