In partnership with Hive Energy, Ethical Power and Solar South West, Lodestone Energy will be developing nine solar parks across New Zealand. The projects are estimated to generate 500 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power 50,000 homes. The capital to expand the platform will be provided by the joint venture of the UK renewable energy companies, HES Aotearoa (HESA). Engineering, procurement and construction works are to be carried out by Ethical Power New Zealand. The projects are in varying stages of development.
How Much Electricity Will New NZ Solar Parks Generate?
- All nine projects are estimated to be operational by 2021
- The combined capacity of the nine solar parks will be 500 megawatts (MW)
- This is enough to power 500,000 households in New Zealand each year
- The combined energy output of the solar parks will be approximately 500 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually
- This is equivalent to the electricity used by over 50,000 households each year
- The projects will help New Zealand reach its 2020 renewable energy targets
- The joint venture of HESA will provide the necessary capital to develop the solar parks
- The projects are expected to create hundreds of jobs in New Zealand, including construction and maintenance roles
- Ethical Power New Zealand will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction works associated with the projects
