The African countries of Botswana and Cameroon have taken steps to add a combined 125MW of installed PV capacity to their respective national grids.

Botswana Power Corp is seeking independent power producers to build two 50 MW solar parks. The projects are intended to reduce the nation’s dependence on power imports from troubled South African utility Eskom.

An EU funded solar-plus-storage project has been tendered in the Philippines. The United Nations is seeking bids for the system, to support the for the seaweed industry on the island of Tawi-Tawi. The Rural Areas Electricity Company wants to build hybrid plants in 11 non-interconnected areas of the sultanate. Earlier this week, the French government published a list of winning projects for the sixth round of its tender for large-scale solar.
