Record-breaking 24.5% Efficiency in Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells
- Revolutionary solar breakthrough: 24.5% efficiency achieved by Nanjing University, University of Victoria, and Australian National University researchers using lead-tin perovskite technology.
Researchers from Nanjing University, University of Victoria, and Australian National University have achieved a world record efficiency of 24.5% on large-size all-perovskite tandem solar cells. The use of lead-tin perovskite instead of silicon in the narrow band gap cell has historically resulted in low film quality and device efficiency. However, the team utilized aminoacetamide hydrochloride to coordinate precursor components, homogenize crystallization, and passivate the buried perovskite interface, leading to the high efficiency.
The all-perovskite tandem solar module, made using blade-coating techniques, demonstrated a certified power conversion efficiency of 24.5% with an aperture area of 20.25 square centimeters. Chinese perovskite solar technology company Renshine Solar (Suzhou), founded by Nanjing University’s Professor Tan Hairen, also achieved a steady-state efficiency of 24.50% for an all-perovskite tandem cell module in October 2022.
