Orsted has actually acquired its very first solar project in Ireland, consisting of a 65MW advancement from Terra Solar.

The Ballinrea solar project is located in Cork and is expected to be functional in 2025.

Kieran White, Vice President of Europe Onshore at Orsted, said: "The purchase marks a considerable milestone as it's the first Irish solar project acquisition for the business.

" This project will make a significant contribution to Ireland's nationwide energy target of 80% renewable power by 2030 as well as to the Irish federal government's new 5.5 GW solar target.

Ballinrea will add to Orsted Onshore's ambition to grow its international portfolio to a 50:50 wind and solar PV capacity mix in the direction of 2030.

With its recent acquisition of Ostwind, Orsted has entered the French as well as German solar markets, including in its ambitions to establish a significant portfolio of solar projects in Spain along with 4 neighborhood partners, revealed in June this year.

Globally, Orsted has around 5GW of capacity in operation and under construction across onshore wind, solar, and storage, of which 1.3 GW is solar.

The designer said it is on track to get to an overall of 17.5 GW onshore capacity internationally by 2030.
