NextEra Energy Resources LLC has launched the 100-MW Amite Solar Energy Centre in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, marking its first utility-scale energy facility in the state. The project, built and operated by a subsidiary of NextEra, began commercial operations in March after a 15-month construction period. It will provide "dependable, low-cost, fixed-price energy" to electric cooperative DEMCO for 25 years, according to DEMCO CEO Randy Pierce.
The solar project created 200 construction jobs and is projected to generate approximately USD 16 million in additional tax revenue for Tangipahoa Parish over the next 30 years. NextEra Energy Resources boasts over 33 GW of net electricity generating capacity.
