Egenco has started construction of a 10-MW solar power plant in Nanjoka, Salima district, Malawi. The ceremony was attended by country's energy minister Ibrahim Matola. The project is the first phase of a 20-MW solar plant development that will also incorporate a 2.5 MWh battery storage system. The 10-MW facility will require an investment of USD 14 million and is expected to be completed within 18 months. Chint Electrical Co is the contractor for this project and the company has acquired enough land for up to 50MW. This project is part of the thrust by the Malawian government to expand access to electricity in the rural areas.
