The project, which has been developed by Global Power Generation, a subsidiary of Spanish energy Naturgy Energy, is anticipated to begin industrial procedures following month.

Solar Module Super League (SMSL) participant LONGi has supplied almost 235,000 bifacial modules for the project, which will be installed to Soltec SF7 bifacial trackers to maximise yield in what is swiftly becoming one of the world's solar hotspots.

Honored with some of the highest possible irradiation worldwide as well as normally cooler because of its high elevation, Chile's Atacama desert is currently host to several of the globe's largest bifacial solar array as well as the location of several possible projects to find.

Earlier this year Chile awarded contracts to a variety of project programmers as part of a 2.6 GW solar tender, a number of which are to find onward in Antofagasta, the area of Chile in which the Atacama desert is situated.

A write-up in PV Tech Power volume 24, published earlier this month, checked out the results of bifacial return modelling at the ATAMOSTEC project, located in Antofagasta. The short article can be viewed completely via the PV Tech Store.

LONGi penned the module supply agreement with Naturgy in October last year, defining the project as a "significant innovation" for both companies' prospects in the region.

"The teamwork between LONGi and also Naturgy will inject new momentum right into the growth of PV sector in South America," Dennis She, senior vice president at LONGi Solar, stated.
