  • VEON’s Kyivstar acquires 100% of SUNVIN 11, adding 12.9 MW of solar capacity to harden networks in wartime Ukraine.

Kyivstar, Ukraine’s leading digital operator and a subsidiary of VEON, has acquired 100% of SUNVIN 11, bringing 12.9 MW of solar capacity into its portfolio of energy-resilience investments. The deal extends the company’s strategy of hedging grid risk for critical communications infrastructure while contributing clean power to a system still recovering from wartime damage. GlobeNewswire

Telecoms are becoming notable buyers of distributed generation. By pairing PV with storage and intelligent controls at facilities across a network, operators can ride through outages, cut diesel consumption, and stabilize energy costs. In Ukraine’s case, the societal value is significant: keeping mobile and data services online under stress conditions saves lives and sustains commerce. GlobeNewswire

The transaction is also a vote of confidence in Ukraine’s renewable sector. With donor support and private capital, resilient, modular clean energy is scaling—even as reconstruction continues. Expect more telecom-energy tie-ups as operators align ESG goals with hard operational needs.
