Engie Energy Access launches 15 solar mini-grids in Zambia
- Empowering Zambia's Eastern Province with sustainable energy solutions through Engie Energy Access's solar mini-grids. A brighter future for underserved communities.
Engie Energy Access, a unit of French energy major Engie SA, has begun construction on 15 solar mini-grids in Zambia's Eastern Province. The off-grid installations, managed by MySol Grid Zambia, aim to provide reliable electricity to underserved families and small businesses in the region. The projects are part of the IAEREP programme funded by the 11th European Development Fund and the European Union.
These solar mini-grids are expected to be operational by the end of the year and are part of Engie Energy Access's goal to deploy 60 such systems across five provinces in Zambia by 2025. The projects will be funded through a USD 7.5 million debt facility arranged by MySol Grid Zambia with Facility for Energy Inclusion, managed by Cygnum Capital, in 2023.
