Enel Green Power Spain to develop solar farm with VRFB storage space in Mallorca
- Enel Green Power Espana, the renewables division of Spanish utility Endesa SA (BME: ELE), has acquired construction permits to develop 2 smaller sized solar farms on the island of Mallorca, Spain, one of them including energy storage space in vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB).
That project integrating solar power with storage space is called Son Orlandis and also will certainly be supplied in 2 phases, Endesa claimed.
In the very first phase, Enel Green Power will certainly build the solar farm itself, a plant of 3.34 MWp/2.78 nominal megawatts (MWn), complied with by the enhancement of a 1.1-MW/ 5.5-MWh VRFB-based energy storage system in the location close by.
The renewables firm will utilize the VCHARGE ± battery for the Son Orlandis project, Endesa said. This battery brand is made by Canada's Largo Clean Energy Corp, which has an arrangement in position with Enel Green Power Espana to supply it its VRFB products.
The second of the projects, referred to as Son Reus, will just include a 12.53-MWp/ 10.73-MWn solar farm.
Both Son Orlandis as well as Son Reus websites lie in the island community of Palma, where they will certainly develop a 52.7-MWp complex with two other operational solar farms installed by Enel Green Power Espana in Mallorca. All four of these projects took advantage of the co-financing assistance from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The Son Reus and also Son Orlandis plants are expected to commence procedures in the initial half of 2022, Endesa added.
