  • CNNP Optoelectronics debuts a 1.6 m×1.2 m perovskite module with 16.5 % TÜV efficiency, glass-glass ruggedization, and lights-out manufacturing at 200 MW scale.

China National Nuclear Corp. (CNNC) subsidiary CNNP Optoelectronics has lifted the curtain on a 1.2 m × 1.6 m single-junction perovskite module that pushes certified efficiency to 16.5 %—the highest yet reported for a panel this size and architecture. TÜV SÜD performed the measurement, which was revealed at SNEC 2025 in Shanghai.

What’s inside the glass-glass sandwich?

  • Poly-4PACz passivation layer: A nanometer-scale self-assembled monolayer (SAM) mitigates interface recombination and lets the panel keep >95 % of its initial output after 85 °C damp-heat stress.

  • 30 nm water-oxygen barrier via ALD: This ultrathin coating blocks moisture and O₂ ingress without adding bulk, complementing a sealed mechanical-interlock frame and salt-resistant wiring harness for coastal and high-altitude sites.

  • Dual-glass, anti-PID stack: Rated for 1,500 V systems and typhoon-class winds (275 km h-¹).

“Dark-factory” pilot line

The modules roll off a 200 MW pilot line that runs lights-out with domestically built coaters, ALD tools and lamination gear. CNNP says the process tolerates uncontrolled ambient temperature and humidity, trimming:

Resource vs. crystalline-Si
Production time –40 %
Materials use –60 %
Energy use –80 %

The lifecycle carbon footprint falls 70 %, and learning-curve scaling is expected to push costs below CNY 0.5 ($0.07)/W—roughly 30 % under mainstream silicon.

Roadmap to gigawatt scale

A gigawatt-class facility is slated to break ground in 2026, with commercial shipments targeted for 2028. Stable throughput in uncontrolled environments could slash capex for future lines and accelerate perovskite adoption in harsh-weather markets.
