- China is constructing the world's largest photovoltaic facility, estimated to cost 45.2 billion yuan ($6.32 billion). The projected facility will be located in Shaanxi Province, and will feature an annual production of 100 GW monocrystalline silicon wafers and 50 GW monocrystalline cells.
China has started work on the world's largest photovoltaic (PV) facility which will have an annual output of 100 gigawatts (GW) of monocrystalline silicon wafers and 50 GW of monocrystalline cells. The facility, with a total investment of $6.32 billion, will be located in Shaanxi Province and will cover 205.4 hectares of land. It is expected to be the largest PV manufacturing base with the highest production capacity in the world.
What Is China's $6.32bln Solar PV Project?
- The facility will create nearly 10,000 jobs in the local area.
- The Shaanxi provincial government and the State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Co Ltd signed a cooperation agreement on the project.
- The project is expected to be completed by 2021 and will produce 1 GW of energy per year.
- The facility has been designed to meet the international advanced standards for the production of monocrystalline silicon wafers.
- The project is part of the Chinese government's larger efforts to increase the use of renewables.
- The facility will be powered by solar energy and will use high-efficiency photovoltaic cells to generate electricity.
