  • Badger Hollow solar park is now fully operational, supplying enough electricity for 90,000 homes each year. 500,000 solar panels make up the 300MW power plant, owned by MG&E, We Energies and Wisconsin Public Service. An exceptional feat in renewable energy, this park is a major milestone for lowering carbon emissions.

The Badger Hollow solar park is now fully operational with its two phases feeding into the grid. Located in Wisconsin’s Iowa County, the 300-MW park is made up of 500,000 solar panels and will generate enough electricity to power 90,000 homes each year. Madison Gas and Electric (MGW) and We Energies own 50 MW and 100 MW of the park’s capacity respectively, while Wisconsin Public Service owns the remaining 100 MW of the first phase. MGE’s chairman, president and CEO Jeff Keebler has praised the project as a step towards using cost-effective, carbon-free renewable energy.

What Benefits Has the Badger Hollow Solar Park Brought?

  • Generation of clean, renewable energy: The 300 MW solar park can generate enough energy to power 90,000 homes each year, and offset an estimated 6.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions over its lifetime.
  • Economic development: The Badger Hollow Solar Park created over 500 construction jobs in the region, and will provide long-term economic benefits to the area.
  • Increased access to renewable energy: The solar park has enabled Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) and Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) to expand their access to renewable energy sources, helping to further the state's commitment to clean energy.
  • A step towards cost-effective energy: MGE's chairman, president and CEO Jeff Keebler has praised the project as a step towards using cost-effective, carbon-free renewable energy.
  • Reduced dependence on fossil fuels: The technological advances associated with the solar park have enabled a greater shift away from fossil fuels and towards renewable energy sources. This will help reduce dependence on non-renewable sources of energy and improve air quality in the region.
