Azerbaijan's 1 GW Solar & Wind Projects Break Ground

  • Masdar and SOCAR break ground on 1 GW of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan, marking a significant step towards their goal of developing up to 10 GW of clean energy by 2030.

Masdar and SOCAR have broken ground on three renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan totaling 1 GW, including two solar PV parks and one wind farm. The groundbreaking ceremony took place during the opening of Baku Energy Week, where shareholder agreements were also signed. The projects include the 445-MW Bilasuvar and 315-MW Neftchala solar projects, as well as the 240-MW Absheron-Garadagh onshore wind farm.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi stated that Azerbaijan is a key strategic market for the company, and the partnership with SOCAR marks a significant step towards their goal of developing up to 10 GW of clean energy by 2030 in the country. The initial phase of Masdar's plan in Azerbaijan includes 1 GW of solar PV, 1 GW of onshore wind, and 2 GW of integrated offshore wind and green hydrogen projects. Last October, Masdar completed its 230-MW Garadagh solar park in Azerbaijan.
