Zenobe's 300-MW Scottish BESS Project Secures Financial Close

UK-based company Zenobe has achieved financial close on a 300-MW/600-MWh battery energy storage project in Scotland. The Kilmarnock South facility will be installed under Zenobe's GBP 750 million large-scale energy storage investment programme in Scotland. The battery energy storage system (BESS) is expected to go live by late 2025 and will be equipped with battery units from Finland's Warsila Group and inverters and power stations from German SMA Solar Technology AG. EDF has been chosen as the power trading and optimisation contractor for the project.

Zenobe has a 1.2-GW portfolio of BESS projects in Scotland and estimates that the operation of these assets will bring up to GBP 1 billion in energy cost savings over 15 years. The funding for the Kilmarnock South project was extended by an international lending consortium and arranged by NatWest. Construction works can now begin on the project.
