  • India’s Vikram Solar names veteran executive to head its storage arm, targeting up to 5 GWh annual battery output.

India’s renewable-energy firm Vikram Solar has appointed a new chief executive for its storage division, a move timed with ambitious plans to build a 1 GWh battery manufacturing facility — with potential to scale to 5 GWh. The aim: to pair solar generation with battery storage and deliver round-the-clock renewable power solutions.

The new CEO brings decades of experience in battery manufacturing, energy storage design and strategy, including leadership at a company specializing in circular-economy battery solutions. Under his guidance, the company plans to roll out integrated solar-plus-storage setups, combining panel production with in-house BMS (battery management system) and energy-storage builds.

This strategy reflects a growing awareness: solar alone cannot ensure reliability when the sun is down. By vertically integrating battery production, Vikram Solar aims to ensure better quality control, cost management and faster deployment — critical elements for scaling renewables across India’s diverse load centers.

The move may also influence investor sentiment positively, signaling that renewable firms are shifting toward full-stack solutions — combining PV hardware, storage and system integration. For a market as dynamic and demand-heavy as India’s, this could accelerate adoption of stable, dispatchable clean energy.
