Uzbekistan invites Thailand-based Helios to implement a 110 megawatt solar solution
- A new huge solar project is under development in Uzbekistan. The country has invited the foreign supplier to install the system in the southwestern part of Tashkent.
Helios Energy, an energy solution company, made an agreement with Innovative Development Ministry of Uzbekistan on development of a 110 megawatt solar station in Sirdarya.
Bangkok-based company is to deploy a utility-scale system, set to feature about 220,000 of 500 watt solar panels.
Installation of cabling is scheduled to start at an area of 80 hectares at the beginning of 2020. The plant is predicted to be ready to work by the end of 2023.
Solar ambitions of the most populated country of Central Asia
Helios' project in Uzbekistan is likely to further develop the solar sector in Central Asia, currently supported by Scaling Solar.
The program attracted foreign investors to Uzbekistan last month. It was when the first major offer triggered a US$0.027/kWh price quote for a 100 megawatt agreement.
The bid was recognized as one of the lowest prices ever proposed in developing countries.
Later the same month, the most densely populated Central Asian country reported its intention to continue the auction with two more tenders in the following months.
These solar projects are within the framework of the country’ effort to minimize the power sector dependence on fossils. The Uzbek government is aimed at getting 25 per cent of electrical power from green energy resources by 2030.
