Utilitas Building Tallinn's Resplendent Solar Park

Utilitas is building Tallinn’s largest solar park, to be located at the Väo energy complex. The park will have a capacity of 9.3 megawatts (MW) and cover 11 hectares, consisting of 15,600 double-sided solar panels mounted on frames that rotate to follow the sun. The €8 million investment is part of Utilitas’ efforts to reduce Tallinn’s carbon footprint and increase the region’s renewable energy capacity. The new park will join existing combined heat and power plants and a smaller solar park at the Väo complex. Utilitas is also investing in wind energy and green hydrogen projects, and is on track to reach carbon neutrality by 2022.

What Benefits Will Tallinn Gain from Utilitas' €8 Million Solar Park?

  • Increased renewable energy capacity: Utilitas’ investment will provide Tallinn with 9.3 MW of renewable energy capacity, reducing reliance on non-renewable sources.
  • Reduction of carbon footprint: The new solar park will help reduce Tallinn’s carbon footprint, contributing to Utilitas’ goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2022.
  • Improved air quality: The use of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind will result in cleaner air quality in Tallinn, improving the health of its citizens.
  • Job creation: The construction of the solar park will create jobs in the local community, providing an economic boost.
  • Cost savings: Utilitas’ €8 million investment will provide long-term cost savings, reducing energy costs and making the region more attractive to investment.
  • Energy security: Utilitas will be able to provide more reliable energy to the Tallinn region, improving energy security and reducing the need for costly back-up power sources.
