Univergy sets up subsidiary in Poland, plans to develop 220MW of PV projects

• Spanish-Japanese renewables company Univergy International has established a new subsidiary, Univergy Polska SP, in the Polish city of Sopot in order to help develop a five-project PV pipeline.

The five projects, which will be developed in the regions of Czarne, Leczyce, Wagrowiec, Kiszkowo and Kesow, will feature a combined generation capacity of 220MW once completed.

Univergy currently boasts a pipeline of PV projects totaling over 1GW across Europe, with installations also developed in Spain, Portugal, France, Italy and the Netherlands. 

Ignacio Blanco, executive president and CEO of Univergy International, said: “With the entry of Univergy in Poland, the development of 220MW starts, and once again the expectation of the development of the company in Europe is fulfilled, since it will be the sixth country in the Union where a new journey begins ”.

Just about a year ago, Univergy was contracted to help make a sizable contribution to the PV sector in Zimbabwe, as mining firm RioZim signed the company and power firm RioEnergy to a deal that would see the parties develop, build, operate and maintain four solar PV plants totalling more than 180MW of capacity to supply cheaper power to four of the country's largest mines.
