The UK included 730MW of new solar capacity in 2021, an increase of 36% on 2020 when 538MW was set up, according to Solar power UK.

Total PV capacity in the UK is now 14.6 GW, up 5.3% on 2020.

Some 369MW mounted in 2021 was rooftop solar, the highest overall since 2015, said Solar Energy UK.

It added that the new growth in the rooftop field is completely subsidy-free.

Solar power UK stated high gas rates have actually helped promote the roof market, with commercial energy customers installing onsite solar to shield themselves versus the volatility of getting electrical energy based on fossil fuels.

Solar power UK chief executive Chris Hewett stated: "2021 was the year the UK's solar industry came of age.

" We are currently seeing secure, sustained growth across the field, with order books overflowing.

" As fossil fuel energy expenses soar, rooftop solar specifically is currently popular.

" More and more customers as well as businesses are investing in solar due to the fact that they recognize it is a tried and tested means to cut their energy costs and also carbon discharges. It is also now a low-cost way to charge EVs and also decarbonise home heating.

" The UK solar sector prepares to satisfy the difficulty of supplying this need, as well as we get in touch with the government to match the passion of the marketplace.

" Establishing a deployment target of 40GW would certainly support the market to take lasting financial investment decisions and also build the workforce skills that will certainly create hundreds of green jobs across the entire country."
