Tunisia-based 5 MW solar facility supplemented with 2.2 MW of storage
- Major Italy-based oil and gas producer has completed an off-grid solar-plus-storage project in Tunisia. Earlier, it commissioned a similar 10-megawatt installation in Pakistan. The Tunisian project was deployed in collaboration with local state-owned ETAP.
Eni has commissioned the 5-megawatt photovoltaic system in Tataouine Governorate. The solar facility was constructed in cooperation with Tunisia’s ETAP. No financial or technical details are revealed except that the plant is supplemented with 2.2-megawatt battery storage.
The Italy’s oil&gas company is currently deploying one more solar installation with a capacity of 10 megawatts in the nearby location. The project has been won in an auction held by Ministry of Energy of Tunisia. The facility is expected to supply power to Tunisia-based STEG. It is being constructed near Tataouine city.
Additionally, the firm is planning the construction of a floating solar plant. The facility will boast 14-megawatt capacity and will be located in the south of Eni’s native country. Some more utility-scale ventures are planned by Eni for deployment in Italy.
In early November Eni announced a Namibe-based PV project with a capacity of 50 megawatts. There are considerable unexploited resources of hydrocarbon in the South Angolan province. The venture is deployed together with Sonangol – Angolan petroleum and natural gas producer.
This month, the Italian giant has signed a deal for construction of the Kazakhstan-based 50-megawatt solar facility. Eni has won the auction with the lowest proposed price, constituting 0.032 USD per kilowatt-hour.
About a month ago, the oil colossus completed the 10-megawatt off-grid PV facility in Bhit Field, Pakistan. The Pakistani unit of the Italian company is a holder of 40 percent of the project’s stake.
