TotalEnergies commissions 61MW French battery
- Energy storage system in Flandres will provide rapid reserve grid stabilisation solutions
TotalEnergies has actually appointed a 61MW battery energy storage system in France.
Located at the Flandres Center in Dunkirk, the battery has a complete storage capacity of 61 megawatt hrs (MWh) as well as provides grid stabilisation services.
The energy storage system comprises 27 containers of 2.5 MWh, developed as well as constructed by Saft, TotalEnergies' battery affiliate.
This project was picked as part of the long-term tender released by the French Electricity Transmission Network (RTE) in February 2020, where TotalEnergies was awarded battery storage capacity.
The complete appointing of the site adheres to the start-up of a first 25MW device in January 2021.
"We take pride in the appointing of the biggest storage site in France and to be able to sustain RTE, the grid operator, in guaranteeing the stability of the grid and also thus enabling the enhanced growth of renewable energies", said Vincent Stoquart, TotalEnergies elderly vice president renewables.
"With the success of this project as well as Saft's experience in batteries for energy storage, TotalEnergies plans to deploy its storage services in nations where the business is proactively developing renewable resources".
The battery is supplying fast book supplies to offset a discrepancy in the small frequency of 50 Hertz.
