The grand opening of Hungary's most extensive solar park has taken place officially
- The Hungarian government has officially announced the commencement of operations at the country's largest solar photovoltaic (PV) park. This 233-MW facility, located in Mezocsat, a municipality in the northern Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county, was constructed by local developer PolSolar Kft.
This project, which enjoys backing from the nation's feed-in-tariff (FiT) scheme, covers a 440-hectare (1,087-acre) area and is composed of 466,000 panels. These panels are forecasted to produce approximately 372 GW of electricity each year.
According to Energy Minister Csaba Lantos, the solar park's output will contribute significantly to reducing Hungary's dependence on natural gas and augmenting the proportion of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. This is crucial given that Hungary currently imports 76% of its energy.
Reports from local sources indicate that the project's realization came with a price tag exceeding HUF 90 billion (USD 260.4m/EUR 243.8m). This sum was partially funded by PolSolar's proprietary resources and partially by the proceeds of a bond sale.
