TasRex's 5GW Renewables Ambition Unveiled

TasRex, a newly-created company in Tasmania, has unveiled plans to build up to 5 GW of solar, onshore and offshore wind farms in the Australian state. The initial project is a 288-MW photovoltaic (PV) park with battery storage, located in the Northern Midlands of the state. This project includes the installation of PV panels in an area currently used for agricultural purposes, a new 220-kV transmission line and a battery storage facility, with the site to continue to be used for grazing and farming once generation begins. Construction works are scheduled to begin in 2026, with the facility expected to be operational in the following year.

What Plans Does TasRex Have for Solar and Wind Farms in Tasmania?

  • TasRex’s plans include the installation of 4.7GW of solar and wind farms in total in Tasmania.
  • TasRex has outlined plans for the installation of 4.51GW of solar and 200MW of wind energy sites across the state.
  • The project is to be constructed on land currently used for agricultural purposes, with the site to continue to be used for grazing and farming once generation begins.
  • TasRex plans to use the latest technologies and best practices for its sites, such as battery storage and advanced grid integration systems.
