Sunny Albania Powers Up With Solar Plant
- Albania embraces solar power with the Karavasta power station - 234,828 new solar panels generating 140 megawatts to power homes and protect local species. 53 families will be reimbursed for land appropriation to create this renewable energy facility.
Albania has turned to solar power as a way to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and increase energy production. The Karavasta power station, located on 200 hectares of land provided by the Albanian government, has 234,828 new solar panels that will generate 140 megawatts of electricity, powering hundreds of thousands of homes in the country. During the construction of the power station, specific projects were created to protect the local species of frogs, as well as bird diverters to protect the migratory flyways and nesting areas for pelicans and pink flamingos. The project also included the appropriation of land from 53 families, who will be reimbursed by the state and Voltalia. In the coming weeks the Karavasta solar power plant will be connected to the Albanian energy grid.
