Statkraft's Zerbst: Germany's Largest Solar-Storage Park by 2025

Norwegian state-owned utility Statkraft AS has announced plans to construct a 47-MWp solar park with battery storage in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The project, named Zerbst, is set to be completed by the end of 2025 and will be the largest hybrid solar-storage park in the country. The solar park will be located on a former gravel pit in the municipality of Zerbst, covering approximately 41 hectares of land and generating enough electricity for around 14,000 homes annually.

The photovoltaic array will be complemented by a 16 MW battery energy storage system, providing two hours of storage capacity. Statkraft aims to secure a building permit for the project this summer and begin construction soon after. The company is also considering expanding its solar park plans to include additional battery storage, following its success in securing a market premium for the Zerbst project in an innovation tender held by the German Federal Network Agency last June.
