SPIC commissions floating solar-offshore wind hybrid off China
- Chinese power generation firm State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) has commissioned 0.5 MWp of floating solar arrays hybridised with an offshore wind turbine in the waters off the coast of Haiyang in China's Shandong province.
The project used two arrays that were designed by Norwegian floating solar professional Ocean Sun AS (FRA: OW7) based on its trademarked technology, the business claimed on Tuesday as it revealed the information of the commissioning.
The project, which SPIC moneyed, is said to be the world's initial offshore floating solar and also wind hybrid, according to Ocean Sun.
The floating arrays were connected to a transformer on a SPIC-owned wind turbine and after that hooked to the power grid with the submarine cable television of the wind farm, the Norwegian company stated.
The whole arrangement will now undergo a pilot run and also full technological and also economic presentation. The plan for the next phase is to make use of Ocean Sun's modern technology to set up 20 MWp of floating solar plants and also connect them to the remaining turbines in 2023.
