Spanish Farmers Co-Invest in Statkraft Solar Projects

Norwegian power producer Statkraft A/S is planning to build two 77-MW solar plants in eastern Spain, offering local farmers the opportunity to invest in the projects. The combined investment for the twin projects, named Los Predios and Los Hierros, is over EUR 120 million. The company has signed an agreement with the Valencian farmers association AVA-ASAJA to allow farmers to invest up to 5% in the projects.

Despite opposition from the Turis Town Hall due to environmental concerns, Statkraft plans to use 434 hectares of land for the solar projects, with only 18% of the area covered with solar panels. The company will also promote eco farming and allocate land for biodiversity conservation measures. Environmental approval has been received, and construction is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.
