Spain's renewables hit 50.7% share in May as solar PV breaks record
- Renewables generated 50.7% of Spain's power in May, generating 10% more "green gigawatt-hours" contrasted to the very same period a year earlier, according to the most recent estimates launched Wednesday by Spanish grid driver Red Electrica de Espana (REE).
The renewables cooperate Spain's power manufacturing mix in April was 46.2%, after going down for 2 months in a row.
In May, wind power generation hit 4,794 GWh, up 20.9% on the year. With a 23.4% share in the mix, wind ranches were Spain's leading power manufacturers over the month, followed by nuclear and also consolidated cycle nuclear power plant.
REE also highlighted the record outcome attained by solar PV plants, which produced 2,331 GWh in May, a regular monthly quantity unseen given that the national records started in 2007.
On May 29, solar PV reached a day-to-day share of 14.7% on 89 GWh, REE included.
The structure of Spain's power mix in May is summarised in the table below:
Spain's gross demand for electrical power was estimated at 20,338 GWh, up by 11.1% compared to May 2020, which the country spent under the COVID-19 lockdown. Contrasted to May 2019, the nationwide need was lower by 3%.
Demand patterns for Spain's three electrical power systems individually are given up the table below:
