  • Solarvest's joint venture to power Brunei with its largest solar park, advancing the nation's renewable energy goals by 2035.

Solarvest Holdings Bhd, through its subsidiary Atlantic Blue Sdn Bhd and joint venture with Khazanah Satu Sdn Bhd and Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn Bhd, has been awarded a contract to build and operate Brunei's largest solar park. The 30-MW photovoltaic farm will be constructed on a 33.3-hectare remediated landfill in Kampong Belimbing, Brunei-Muara District. The project was secured following a 2021 Request for Proposals by the Brunei government.

The joint venture, Seri Suria Power B Sdn Bhd, has signed a land lease and a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Brunei government. The solar park is expected to be operational by the end of next year, producing approximately 66.47 million kWh annually. This initiative aligns with Brunei's goal to generate 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035, as the country currently relies on fossil fuels for 95% of its power.

How will Brunei's largest solar park impact its renewable energy goals by 2035?

  • Contribution to Renewable Energy Mix: The solar park will significantly contribute to Brunei's target of generating 30% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
  • Reduction in Carbon Emissions: By producing approximately 66.47 million kWh annually, the solar park will help decrease carbon emissions, supporting Brunei's environmental sustainability goals.
  • Energy Security: Diversifying energy sources with solar power enhances Brunei's energy security and reduces vulnerability to fossil fuel market fluctuations.
  • Economic Benefits: The project may stimulate local economic growth by creating jobs during construction and operation, and potentially attracting further investments in renewable energy.
  • Technological Advancement: The development of the solar park could encourage technological innovation and expertise in renewable energy within Brunei.
  • Policy Support: The project demonstrates the Brunei government's commitment to renewable energy policies and could lead to further supportive regulations and incentives.
  • Public Awareness and Education: The solar park can serve as a model for renewable energy projects, raising public awareness and education about the benefits of clean energy.
