Solaria Signs A 105MW Power Purchase Agreement Energy Deal with Alpiq Trader
- According to Medio Ambiente, Solaria Energia has signed an agreement to sell three PV installations with a capacity of 105 MW to Alpiq - a Swiss energy trader.
The PPA is the latest move by Solaria in 2019. The firm had shared the plans of becoming the largest solar IPP in Spain by 2023. It said that by 2030, it will have installed a 3.325GW portfolio.
When this publication talked to them in July, the company outlined the steps it would follow to help it achieve its objective. It said that it is focusing on 20-40MW that will help improve its power generation activities. David Guengant the head of investor relations said that the company will remain patient on PPA as it waits to find reliable off-takers with whom to negotiate for better prices.
In July, Guengant said that they were focusing on the 400MW project they are working on in Arogon, Castilla-La Mancha, and Castilla Leon. The project is powered by Risen Modules.
When contacted this week, Solaria said that the 400MW will include the 2555MW project financed by Natixis and the 108.5 MW in which it has a PPA with Rapsol –a major oil company. It said that the other 36.5 MW will be covered under the 105MW PPA that it is signing with Alpig.
Solaria was launched in 2002. It was a solar panel and module manufacturer but switched to downstream deployment after the prospects changed following several regulatory changes in Spain and stiff competition from the Chinese companies.
Guengant said that Solaria believes that the company had enough experience in manufacturing and hoped that it will help it in its 2023 plans of generating 3.325GW.
He said that the company used to manufacture modules. So, it will buy the components directly and hand them over to EPCs. Guengant further said that the company will be sending people to China to verify the quality because it has in-depth knowledge of the materials and knows how much they cost.
