The first solar power plant was commissioned under the state bona fide entrepreneurship programme at Mundkhar village in the district.
The state government had offered solar power projects of 250 kW to 500 kW capacity to Himachalis so that no one from outside the state could apply.
Rijul Dewan, promoter of the project, said it was the first solar power project commissioned at the village and could produce over 9 lakh units of power annually. Revenue generated would be over Rs 39.78 lakh. Rijul, an engineer, said instead of searching jobs, he preferred becoming an entrepreneur.
The project cost was over Rs 2 crore. The government and officials of HIMUDA helped him set up the plant, which started functioning on October 19.
“Double glass modules from Europe with 30 years of warranty have been installed with 1,500 volt solar optimised inverters,” Rijul added. Wattan Singh Mehla, executive engineer, electricity subdivision, Barsar, said Himachal Pradesh Electricity Board Limited had started procuring power from the project for Rs 4.20 per unit.
