Silfab Secures US-made Wafers from NorSun's 5GW Factory

- Silfab Solar Inc. has signed an agreement with NorSun to purchase locally-made silicon wafers for its PV module production. This partnership will enable Silfab to strengthen its supply chain and provide more Western-produced wafers for its products. NorSun is currently raising funds for a 3Gw and 5GW production facility in the US.
Silfab Solar Inc, a North American photovoltaic module maker, has signed an agreement with NorSun to purchase its locally-made silicon wafers from the Norwegian manufacturer’s upcoming 5-GW production facility in the US. The deal will enable Silfab to bolster its supply chain and supply more Western-produced wafers for its products. NorSun, which currently operates a 1-GW factory in Norway, is raising funds to expand to 3 GW and for the 5-GW US facility.
Which US Factory Will NorSun Use for Its 5-GW Silicon Wafers?
- The 5-GW US facility will be built in the state of Oregon.
- NorSun will invest over $1 billion into the facility, which will create around 3,000 jobs in Oregon.
- The factory will produce monocrystalline and monocrystalline PERC silicon wafers for use in solar modules.
- NorSun plans to begin production at the facility in 2023, with the capacity ramping up to 5 GW by 2025.
- The facility will be the largest single solar wafer factory in the world, supplying over 10% of the global demand for this key component.
