Siemens Powers Up 800MW US Inverter Factory

Siemens has announced a 800 MW inverter manufacturing capacity located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The inverters will be made almost exclusively for the US market under the Inverter Reduction Act subsidies. The facility will be owned and operated by the company’s manufacturing partner Sanmina and is expected to begin production in 2024. The string inverters will have an output range of 125 to 155 kW and will have a CEC certified efficiency of 99%.

The US is becoming a hotspot for renewable energy manufacturing with both local and international firms investing heavily in the market. Siemens has already invested over $3 billion in the US market and is a key player in the wind energy sector in the country. The emergence of such manufacturing base could create distortions in the sector, especially for China, which has the highest global market share in renewable energy manufacturing.

What Impact Will Siemens' 800 MW Inverter Manufacturing Have on the US?

  • The 800 MW inverter manufacturing capacity will create jobs in the region and drive economic growth.
  • It will increase the competitiveness of US companies in the renewable energy sector.
  • It will reduce reliance on Chinese companies for renewable energy technology.
  • It will help reduce the cost of renewable energy in the US by providing access to more efficient inverters.
  • It will ensure a reliable and secure energy supply in the US and reduce its reliance on imported energy sources.
  • It will help US manufacturers to expand their presence in the global renewable energy market.
