If successful, the farm would be the first massive solar project in the island city-state to be established on a sanitary landfill website, would certainly occupy a location of 60ha as well as have a capacity of at least 72MW.

The two companies have authorized a non-binding MOU to examine developing the farm, a contract sustained by Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA) and Energy Market Authority (EMA).

In line with Singapore's target to increase solar release to at least 2GW by 2030, the project, if realised, would lower CO2 exhausts by 37,000 tonnes a year.

Semakau is an offshore functional sanitary landfill, and a solar farm over it would certainly be an example of "touching readily available land to double up for solar generation to maximise renewable energy generation," claimed JTC Chief Executive Officer Tan Boon Khai.

"This project is aligned with our 10-year plan to repurpose our core organization, reduced our own CO2 emissions in the nation and also aid our clients decarbonise," stated Aw Kah Peng, chairman of Shell Companies in Singapore.
