Shell Energy is the only purchaser of Californian solar park 200-megawatt capacity
- EDP Renewables, a Spain-based energy company, via the subsidiary in North America along with Shell Energy signed an agreement, with a term of fifteen years, for a 200-megawatt power system – Sandrini Solar Park.
Situated close to Bakersfield, the plant expected to become ready to operate in 2022, represents a prospective investment of over $200m and is supposed to produce clean electrical power sufficient to yearly supply over 90,000 regular Californian houses.
The state is also likely to profit from the solar plant construction thanks to payments to Californian landed proprietors and authorities, new vacancies available in the course of deployment as well as more finances spent locally. The solar station is forecasted to save over 350m gallons of water annually.
Apart from becoming Sandrini’s only power purchaser, Shell Energy is planning to buy all the environmental attributes, REC and capacity included.
EDP’s portfolio in California consists of two sections of Lone Valley Solar project as well as three sections of Rising Tree Wind energy project. The facilities have powered over 100,000 houses throughout the state. North American branch of EDPR is also going to create Sonrisa Solar Park. The latter is estimated to have 200 megawatts of solar capacity not to mention 40 megawatts of battery capacity. The facility is predicted to be installed in three years.
