Sekisui Chemical is embarking on a significant project to establish a 100 MW perovskite solar panel manufacturing line, aiming to support Japan's goal of developing a gigawatt-level supply system by 2030. Selected for the GX Supply Chain Construction Support Project by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Sekisui plans to commence operations by 2027. The manufacturing facilities will be set up within the buildings acquired from Sharp Corporation in Sakai City, Osaka.

To facilitate this initiative, Sekisui Chemical will create a dedicated entity named SEKISUI SOLAR FILM, focusing on the design, production, and sales of lightweight perovskite solar cells. Initially targeting low load-bearing rooftops, the company plans to expand into public sector applications and eventually broaden its reach to private-sector buildings like factories and warehouses. Partnerships with Sharp Corporation and the Development Bank of Japan have been established to support this venture.
