RPC, Greenfield companion to create 500 MW of battery storage space in UK
- Renewable Power Capital (RPC), a UK-based renewables platform backed by CPP Investments, as well as London-based renewables designer Greenfield have consented to establish at least 500 MW of battery storage space capacity in the UK.
As part of the agreement, RPC claimed today it has gotten from Greenfield 2 initial projects with a potential mixed capacity of 83 MW, which are anticipated to be fully permitted by the second quarter of 2024.
RPC plans to have and also operate the storage space possessions over the long term, supporting its portfolio of renewables. The UK is the leading utility-scale battery storage space market in Europe with 1.7 GW installed by the end of 2021 and also a projected 10 GW by 2030, the business said.
"Lithium-ion battery storage space is presently one of the most flexible short duration storage technology offered as well as will certainly play an important role in balancing our power system," commented RPC's chief executive Kevin Devlin.
Set up in 2020, RPC in March transitioned from being a renewables financier to an operator with the requisition of operations of three onshore wind farms in Finland.
