Romanian Renewables JV Expands with Solar and Storage

Romanian hydropower producer Hidroelectrica and Masdar have expanded their joint venture to include onshore and floating solar projects, as well as battery energy storage capacities. The agreement has been extended for three years, with the potential for further renewal, and aims to develop 2,000 MW of greenfield or brownfield projects. The companies will also explore opportunities in alternative technologies like wind power and in different geographical regions.
The pact, signed during a Romanian delegation's visit to the UAE, is pending internal approvals from both companies. This expansion builds on the initial agreement signed in March 2023 for the development of renewable energy projects in Romania.
