Rolls-Royce Powers Up Encavis with Massive Battery System
- Rolls-Royce Power Systems to supply cutting-edge battery system to Encavis AG, enhancing energy trading and security of supply in Germany.
Rolls-Royce Power Systems, a subsidiary of Rolls-Royce Holdings, will supply a 12-MW/24-MWh battery energy storage system to Encavis AG, a wind and solar park operator based in Hamburg. The battery system is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2025 and will help Encavis trade electricity from German wind and solar parks by balancing out generation fluctuations and enhancing security of supply. The battery will be installed at an Encavis project in Hettstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, with support from regional energy provider Stadtwerke Hettstedt.
The Rolls-Royce battery system, called mtu EnergyPack QG, will consist of 72 battery cabinets and the mtu EnergetIQ control platform. It will be charged during times of low electricity prices and release power during times of high prices by participating in the day-ahead and intra-day market. Rolls-Royce has also provided project development support to Encavis and will offer 10 years of maintenance for the battery system.
