Renu Energy completed installing the 64-panel solar array in May to power the UNC Asheville Reuter Center, an educational center on campus that is home of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. The installation is approximated to provide 37,000 kWh for the university's grid facilities and also will support UNC Asheville's new campus standards for energy effectiveness as well as sustainability.

" The Reuter Center solar installation doubled UNC Asheville's solar energy production as well as was our very first renewable energy project considering that devoting to carbon neutrality by 2050. Along with the environment impacts, this project will balance out $920,000 in utility prices for the university over the life of the system," said Jackie Hamstead, co-director of sustainability at UNC Asheville. "We are most happy with the way this project brought together a lot of partners functioning towards the shared goal of a much healthier future."
