Reliance Unveils Swappable Batteries
- Experience the latest in EV technology with Reliance Industries: swappable, multipurpose batteries for EVs and home appliances. Get customisable batteries, intelligent swap stations and integrated charging networks to make the switch to electrification easier and more affordable.
Reliance Industries has unveiled swappable, multipurpose batteries for electric vehicles and home appliances at the REI Expo. The batteries can be used to power EVs, or route the power through an inverter for household appliances. Reliance won an allocation under the PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing last year, and has planned smaller batteries as well as containerised energy storage solutions for larger energy storage projects. It has also acquired two battery companies for about $200 million in 2021 and 2022, respectively. The presentation showed customisable batteries for business and individual usage, intelligent swap stations and integrated charging networks. This move has been contested by some vehicle manufacturers, with supporters arguing that it will help lower EV costs and enable a faster transition.
What Benefits Will Reliance's EV & Home Batteries Bring?
- Reliance's swappable, multipurpose batteries will reduce costs for electric vehicles and home appliances, making EVs more affordable and allowing for a faster transition from traditional to electric vehicles.
- The batteries will be able to power both electric vehicles and home appliances, eliminating the need for separate batteries for each and saving money.
- The batteries will be customisable, allowing for easier installation and the ability to fit different battery sizes in different vehicles.
- Intelligent swap stations and integrated charging networks will be available, which will make it easier for EV owners to swap and recharge their batteries.
- The acquisition of two battery companies for approximately $200 million will allow Reliance to offer more efficient and innovative batteries and features.
