REIL invites companies to bid for the supply of 1.3 million multicrystalline silicon cells

  • Only Indian companies are allowed to bid for this project. The company that succeeds will supply 4.5W, 4.6W and 4.67W multicrystalline silicon solar cells. the bidding process is expected to close on the 6th day of January.

The tender by REILis for the supply of 500,000 of 4.5W, 500,000 of 4.6W and 300,000 of 4.7W respectively of multicrystalline silicon solar cells. The sizes to be supplied by the successful company will be 156×156 ± 1.0mm. However, the thickness of the solar cell must be 200±20 microns.

Companies that don’t have the capacity to produce an average 50 MW of crystalline silicon yearly will not be eligible. Also, to be eligible, the company must have sold an average of 4.0 MW crystalline silicon cells to Indians from the month of April 2019 to March 2019. The multicrystalline cells will be supplied by the company who wins the bidding monthly. If the manufacturer of the solar cells delays in supplying the product, they will pay a 0.5 percent in damages.

According some industry analyst, the damages to be paid is lenient compared to offer made by other companies. The bidding process is for only Indian companies. The contract is expected to commence in March 2020. Nonetheless, the company that wins the bidding process can indicate when they want the contract to commence. It is not clear yet whether most Indian companies will meet the criteria’s set out in the tender by Rajasthan Electronics India Ltd.
