- Q Energy's groundbreaking Les Ilots Blandin project in France will be Europe's largest floating solar farm, powering 37,000 households annually by 2025.
Q Energy, a European renewables developer, is on track to commission its 74.3-MW floating solar farm in northeastern France by 2025. The project, known as Les Ilots Blandin, is currently 30% complete and is set to be the largest floating photovoltaic (PV) project in Europe. Once operational, it will be able to power up to 37,000 households annually.
The floating solar farm will be built on a former quarry in France's Haute-Marne region, spanning over 127 hectares of flooded gravel pits. The project, which was launched in 2019, was a winner in the French government's PPE2 tender in August 2022. The floating structures for the project will be manufactured by France-based Ciel & Terre International.
