  • Q Energy powers up Spain with a 96 MWp solar complex, energizing 50,000 homes by 2026 with cutting-edge battery storage for enhanced efficiency.

Q Energy has commenced construction on a 96 MWp solar complex in Castile-Leon, Spain, covering 163 hectares. The Zaratan project, consisting of three sites, will include battery storage and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026, providing power to nearly 50,000 homes annually.

This marks Q Energy's sixth project in Spain this year, contributing to over 400 MWp of projects initiated in 2025. The company is also developing four-hour battery energy storage systems for each site, enhancing the project's efficiency and reliability, according to Mauro di Fiore, head of Q Energy’s EPC division.

How will Q Energy's Zaratan project impact Spain's renewable energy landscape by 2026?

  • Increased Renewable Capacity: The Zaratan project will add 96 MWp to Spain's renewable energy capacity, supporting the country's goal to increase its share of renewable energy in the national grid.
  • Energy Storage Integration: The inclusion of four-hour battery energy storage systems will enhance grid stability and reliability, allowing for better management of energy supply and demand.
  • Reduction in Carbon Emissions: By providing clean energy to nearly 50,000 homes, the project will significantly reduce carbon emissions, contributing to Spain's climate targets.
  • Economic Growth and Job Creation: The construction and operation of the Zaratan project will create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Castile-Leon region.
  • Technological Advancement: The project will showcase advanced solar and storage technologies, positioning Spain as a leader in innovative renewable energy solutions.
  • Contribution to Energy Independence: By increasing domestic renewable energy production, the project will help reduce Spain's reliance on imported fossil fuels.
  • Support for National Energy Policies: The Zaratan project aligns with Spain's national energy policies aimed at transitioning to a more sustainable and resilient energy system by 2026.
