NTR protects ten-year capability settlements in Ireland for 22MW of battery storage
- NTR battery storage projects totaling 22MW have secured ten-year contracts for the supply of grid capacity to the Irish grid system.
This was won in the ability auction revealed by grid drivers Eirgrid and SONI this month. The two projects, which are located in Co. Wexford, are among eleven battery projects to be effective in the public auction, providing 5% of the grid's capability needs.
In addition to capability, the projects are to give grid firming solutions to sustain the grid's capability to deal with variable power created by wind and solar projects.
It follows Eirgrid announcing 85 renewable resource projects standing for 2,897 MW would certainly be receiving grid connection uses with its enduring link policy (ECP) process last month. This consisted of 61 solar PV projects with a cumulative capability of 1,533 MW, 6 hybrid solar-plus-storage sites containing 325MW of solar as well as 441MW of battery energy storage and also two standalone battery energy storage projects with a collective capability of 150MW.
One of these is Gore Street Energy Storage Fund's Kilmannock battery energy storage system (BESS), additionally located in Co. Wexford, Ireland, which received an added grid volume allocation of 90MW, building on the 30MW presently secured.
