NTPC – a state-planned giant plans to invest a further R 50,000crore to increase its energy generation capacity by 10 GW. The company has already installed a 920 MW renewable solar energy capacity. Besides, the company plans to generate more than 130 GW by 2032. This will mostly consist of renewable and non-fossil energy generation.

To achieve this goal, it plans to tender 2, 300 MW capacity generations before the end of 2019 -2020 fiscal year. After this, it will fund another 4GW generation between 2020-2022 fiscal years. The company has plans to fund the projects through borrowing from the public but prefers doing so through the domestic green bond.

The 10 GW solar additions is a significant move towards achieving the 175 GW of green energy before the end of 2022.

According to reliable sources, the company will get solar energy projects under a scheme that allows for group funding. This will help to maintain the tariff below the level of Rs 3 per unit.

Also, the company plans to set up solar energy projects and sell energy to industrial and commercial users.

According to the sector regulator, the company’s plans have been approved and it is expected to commence its work by 2020, April 1st. Once it is done, the company will have 48 sessions in a day which will allow users to have the power supplied within an hour after making the purchase.
